Tokyo DisneySea

What?

Not any of the sights in Tokyo or Kyoto, but the Disney sights are the most popular tourist destiny in Japan. There's the main park - Tokyo Disney Land, but there's also Tokyo DisneySea, intended for a somewhat older audience (don't worry, anyone of any age is more than welcome in both parks).

Where?

While the official name of the park includes the word "Tokyo", the park is actually located in Chiba Prefecture 千葉県. Still close to Tokyo, it is directly connected with the capital by the JR Keiyo Line JR京葉線 (15 minutes). Note though that the platforms for the Keiyo Line in Tokyo Station are another 10 minute walk away from all other lines.

Tokyo Disnea Sea

We knew it was going to rain on Saturday, and even my indestructible optimism couldn't prevent it, although we got a little bit of sunshine before noon. Anyway, looking at it on the bright side: there weren't many people due to the rain, so just like with Disney Land we didn't need to wait in line a long time.
Again it was really fun. The park is really well made and more oriented to grown-ups than Disney Land (don’t be mistaken though, there’s enough to enjoy for children). There are more romantic themes like the Mediterranean coastal city theme with gondolas (however too much rain made them not really popular), there are more scary attractions like the whole volcano themed area, and last but not least, that stupid rat Mickey Mouse doesn’t lure around every corner.
The biggest ride in the Indiana Jones area was closed, but just the way it was made up was really cool. In this particular case the rain made the whole setting really credible: in a soaking jungle a large pyramid towers gloomily over everything else while fire keeps burning despite the rain. Top.

There was also an Arabian area (Sinbad, Aladdin) and an indoors Mermaid Lagoon (Little Mermaid), but we had most fun at the Toy Story Shooting ride. Its concept is very simple: it's just shooting at targets with your toy laser pistol, but it's huge fun! We wanted to ride twice, but the ride was closed before noon, so everyone went in the afternoon...

Not all the rides are thrilling and even then, you don’t have to ride everything to enjoy this park. The whole set up is beautiful and areas are extremely well made. Just strolling around and taking pictures can be as rewarding as experiencing all the rides. I do recommend though that everyone takes a shot (pun intended) at the Toy Story Mania shooting ride!
